A new set of resources directed at the scoliosis community is available from Nashville, Tenn-based Spiral Spine, which reports the recent release of the Scoliometer by Spiral Spine, a mobile app designed to allow users with scoliosis to measure their ribcage and vertebral rotation. The mobile app is reportedly available now at Apple’s App Store.
According to a media release from Spiral Spine, the app was developed by Erin Myers, described in the release as a certified Pilates instructor, “scoliosis expert,” and founder of Spiral Spine. The app aims to help users better understand their scoliosis, giving them the knowledge to better manage their scoliotic backs and quality of life.
“As an instructor who works regularly with scoliotic clients, I have long used a traditional, physical scoliometer to measure their rotation,” Myers says in the media release. She adds that the Spiral Spine mobile app provides excellent accuracy, is affordable, and easy to use.
“I, too, have scoliosis and I personally use the Scoliometer by Spiral Spine app in order to track my spinal movement on any given day,” Myers says.
By regularly measuring spinal rotation before and after different exercise and therapy sessions, users can determine if and how the body responded to that activity—whether positively or negatively and to what degree. This knowledge is crucial for movement practitioners with scoliotic clients, as it helps them determine the best ways in which to ‘unwind’ and release scoliotic spines, according to the company’s media release.
The app can be purchased through the Apple App Store and be downloaded to any Apple mobile device (iPhones and iPads).
